What We Do
#Finding Me
Unleashing The Power of Authenticity in The Workplace
Womaniko launched a campaign called #FindingMe. The campaign seeks to inspire women to explore who they really are beyond the stories they have been told. This is inspired by our desire to see people, particularly women and youth living fulfilled lives in healthy organisations and society.
Why this Campaign?
Authenticity is defined as “of undisputed origin.” It places emphasis on the core of we are, and less on the external appearance and attributes of an individual. At WomanNiko, we define Authenticity as: “Knowing your purpose, embracing and growing your unique gifts, and allowing your values to navigate you toward a life of meaning.
Sadly, too often, a script is written for women. This script seeks to determine how “good” women should look like and lead their lives. Still, as women we always find ourselves in contexts that are marred with contradictory values that might clash with our own – be it at work, church, in our own communities and other places that are important to us.
The result is that many of us find ourselves trapped between living our lives as we would like to and succumbing to societal pressures which seek to determine our actions. When we do succumb to that pressure, we end up living a life of mediocrity by playing by the rules of the game. We do this because we’ve been made to believe that when we play by the rules, we are safe.
However, what actually happens is that our lives get stolen from us. Not only are our lives stolen, but we also get pushed out of the cockpit or ‘drivers’ seat of our existence.
Society and our socialization teach us that to be acceptable and valued, we need to conform to expectations or standards of others, therefore betraying who we really are. This disease of “sameness,” the need to “fit in” and “belong” to gain acceptance is the very thing that is slowly killing us, our individuality and uniqueness.
How can I get involved?
- Take an image of yourself
- Reflect and write all the attributes that define all of who you are – both those you consider good and not so good.
- Upload this image on the social media platforms of your choice
